Sustainability

Project Taunton is working with experts to keep abreast of National policy, ahead of targets and to update the Taunton Protocol which takes a coordinated view of sustainability.
New developments on land owned by Taunton Deane Borough Council are undertaken with a commitment to:
- Low carbon development
- Environmental responsibility
- Employment and training
- Design
- Wellbeing
Project Taunton established the Taunton Protocol as a byword for excellence, with regional and national recognition. Leading environment al campaigner Jonathon Porritt says:
“At long last, people are realising that delivering substantive economic improvement does not need to come at the expense of the environment. The Taunton Protocol is a bold and daring vision, with very clear delivery plans. It is not only about climate change and biodiversity, it also looks at enhancing construction skills, use of sustainable, local building materials and the health and wellbeing of residents.” (March 2009)
In November 2009, Taunton Deane Borough Council’s Executive agreed not only to apply the Protocol’s principles to their development land but to recommend it strongly to other developers.
